Prison Ministry

Angel Tree is a prison ministry aimed at spreading the love of Jesus Christ by providing gift opportunities at Christmas and year-round support. For more than 20 years, SOTV has participated in the Angel Tree program. Clothing and toy items are purchased and are given to children of prisoners in the parent’s name. This year over 100 children were given gifts for Christmas, made possible through the participation of SOTV congregational members. Additionally, each family was provided with a tin of cookies that was baked by the SOTV Preschool families.

PEP Program

Linda Reid and I have been involved for some time with the Parole Empowerment Program (PEP) through the New Mexico Council of Churches. We are assigned a girl who is incarcerated and we act as mentors. This has been a very rewarding experience. We see the girl once a week while she is incarcerated and then follow her for about 3 months during her probationary period. Of course, we may never know whether our efforts have any permanent influence on her, but we hope she is encouraged by our caring and our efforts to show her another way to live.…

Angel Tree Recap - Providing Christmas Gifts to Children of Prisoners This past Christmas, our congregation bought and delivered presents to 100 children. These children were a part of 43 families. We also delivered a tin of cookies, baked by the preschool families, and beans and rice to each family. We are truly blessed with such a giving and generous group. Thank you for remembering Hebrews 13:2

- Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them.

ANGEL TREE -- this Sunday, November 20, marks the beginning of Angel Tree season at SOTV. The ministry works by connecting parents in prison with their children through the delivery of Christmas gifts. This year we are sponsoring over 100 children!
